The Civil Rights Movement began in earnest in the 1950s. Even today, some people and places still struggle with the issues of discrimination and brutality. Some of our nation's lowest points and highest successes happen during this era. Decades of learned discrimination was not an easy thing to overcome. Thankfully, over time the United States has become tolerant of differences and more aware and appreciative of similarities.
